Weimin and Aura eventually getting married, and it’s like the second their legally able to since they’re those high school sweethearts. It’s a small affair held in Vromeado but Seb is the best man and Coralie is the bride’s maid of honor. Dion gets to bring up the rings which he helped design with Aura and then made. Weimin and Aura’s younger siblings (Linh, Lam, and Jelke) all end up doing the flower thing together. Aura’s dad walking her down the aisle. Just- the two of them getting to be happy together and actually getting to live out the life they wanted outside of the Eye.

Coralie turning on the Eye at the last minute and escaping, finding that acceptance and love she’d always been so desperate for in the others. Sabrina not having to grapple with the trauma and trust issues Coralie’s betrayal had given her. Coralie finally realizing that while Sabrina doesn’t like her romantically that doesn’t negate their friendship or love. Coralie getting to travel with Sabrina like she’d always wanted and building herself the family she’d never had.

The little things too: Mirja going to stay with Peik and his family for awhile so she can learn more about healing as she regards Peik and Marina like the siblings she’d never had. Sol fully leaving Sawhaetia and eir family behind and moving in with Kenny, Aiden, and Elena as the four of them try to incite some positive change within Ninrett. Vega moving to Hoiden to move in with Tempest after receiving their degree in Thrioniya and finding themselves a little more. Dion, a few years after everything when he’s more mature and finally comfortable in his own skin, hitting it off with Zephyr and something starting between them. Seb becoming a teacher in Svyranos alongside aiding with some of the heavy reconstruction happening there.

Just the main kids all staying connected after taking down the Eye and all getting to grow up and become a sort of large family.

1.Negative Power Prices Hit Europe as Renewable Energy Floods the Grid

Food scientists in Switzerland have come up with a way to make chocolate using the entire cocoa fruit rather than just the beans - and without using sugar.

The chocolate, developed at Zurich’s prestigious Federal Institute of Technology by scientist Kim Mishra and his team includes the cocoa fruit pulp, the juice, and the husk, or endocarp.

6. Six-year-old boy found in Vietnam forest after five days

A six-year-old boy who was missing for five days has been found deep in a forest in Vietnam. Dang Tien Lam, who lives in the northwestern Yen Bai province, was playing in a stream with his nine siblings on 17 August when he wandered into the hills and got lost, local reports said.

He was found on Wednesday by local farmers who heard a child's cry while they were clearing a cinnamon field close to the forest.

7. Lego plans to make half the plastic in bricks from renewable materials by 2026

Lego plans to make half the plastic in its bricks from renewable or recycled material rather than fossil fuels by 2026, in its latest effort to ensure its toys are more environmentally friendly.

The Danish company last year ditched efforts to make bricks entirely from recycled bottles because of cost and production issues. At the moment, 22% of the material in its colourful bricks is not made from fossil fuels.

Back by nonexistent demand: me, making posts about media that no one else on this site watched. I'm going to do a rec post for this franchise eventually (or at least the first series in it, 二月廿九 | Leap Day) but for now this is a discussion/rant. In particular, it's a critique of the franchise's second half and the sequel to Leap Day, 940920. Take the following as a recommendation or as a warning, your pick.

(There will be some spoilers ahead, although I'll try to avoid where possible.)

A necessary rundown of the premise to Leap Day: three years out of every four, Yeesa Cheung (Sofiee Ng) makes a birthday wish at midnight between February 28th and March 1st, since she doesn't get to celebrate her birthday on February 29th. But in 2017, something changes. The moment she makes her wish, she suddenly travels through time to February 29th, 2020 (the next leap day), and eventually watches a different version of herself die that night. Even stranger are the two men who try to help her at different times, both of them claiming to have known Yeesa for years, but whom she doesn't recognize.

Once the clock strikes March 1st, 2020, Yeesa returns to her normal present in 2017, and begins trying to figure out how to avoid the death she saw. She ends up finding those two men from her future, even though they don't know her in the present. One's name is Ryan (Chui Tien-you), a very sweet grocery store employee and occasional musician with dreams of becoming a professional sushi chef. The other is Yu Ka-chung (Terrance Lau), a grouchy and eccentric chainsmoking philosophy doctorate. The three of them become an unlikely trio over the next three years, as they try to understand the logic behind Yeesa's bizarre time-travelling ability, and Yeesa reckons with what to do with the rest of her life before February 29th, 2020.

940920 still deals with time travel and the idea of (avoiding) preordained fates, but takes its overarching themes in a different direction. Where Leap Day was concerned with answering the questions such as, "If you thought you knew how you were going to die, what would you do with your time left?" and "If you had the power to save someone's life, but didn't know what the cost would be, would you still try it?", 940920 is a study in memory and time. It deals with the loss of memories and how people cling onto them, or choose to let them go, and how the device of time travel can both enable one's desperation in this or twist it into something worse.

The story of 940920 takes place across two different timelines. In one timeline is Yu Ka-chung and his childhood friend, Lam Co-ying (Cecilia Choi), on a time-travelling adventure several years before he first met Yeesa in the Leap Day timeline. In the other is Yeesa, who after the events of Leap Day has found herself in a slightly altered present day 2020. There's a different version of Yu Ka-chung here, this one an established writer and a stranger to Yeesa. Inspired by 'dreams' he's suddenly begun having about an alternate version of himself, this Ka-chung begins writing his next novel, unaware that he's actually transcribing the memories of Leap Day's Ka-chung. Yeesa, meanwhile, is struggling to find her place in a world where no one else quite understands the time-travelling experience she had in her original timeline, while attempting to figure out where she stands in her relationships with Ryan and this achingly different Ka-chung.

The two timelines eventually twine together in a way that brings the original Yu Ka-chung's story full circle, allowing us to understand how he became the man Yeesa met in Leap Day. Ka-chung is very obviously the star of 940920, where he was only the second lead of Leap Day. This is a smart move for a sequel, since he was the most mysterious character in Leap Day and the one with the most intriguing backstory (not to let the actor fixation show itself, but Terrance Lau looks like he had a great time playing two versions of the same person, and he did it very well). However, while I liked this aspect, I want to look closer at how 940920's differences from Leap Day didn't quite stick the landing for me.

Honestly, first off, I'm so incredibly interested to know what people who didn't watch Leap Day before 940920 made of it. Based on reviews, a percentage of viewers did, and by all rights this show shouldn't make sense that way. So, so much of 940920 is defined by worldbuilding and character development set up by Leap Day, and given the time travel + alternate timelines premise, this is not exactly an easy franchise to jump into halfway through with no background.

Yet at the same time, I can see how going into this show blind would work. In fact, given how much the original events and development of characters from Leap Day are eventually dealt with in 940920, I might have been happier with this show had I not watched Leap Day beforehand, and didn't have the prior emotional connection to some of these characters. I know I'm not the only one who felt this; it seems quite a few people who watched Leap Day had trouble jumping over to 940920, although not for the same reasons I did. But let's look more at how this show transitions from Leap Day.

What makes 940920 interesting is that while I call Leap Day a sequel, and it certainly is one in terms of release, it aims to be both a chronological prequel and sequel to the story of Leap Day. While it's trying to balance following up on the development of Leap Day's characters, it's also trying to tell an entirely new story whose future still connects to Leap Day. And unfortunately, ultimately I don't think this balance necessarily works. It ends up leaning far more toward being a prequel for Leap Day's Yu Ka-chung, rather than a continuation of Leap Day that can push Yeesa forward in a new world. Her life after coming to this altered timeline is eventually sidelined, and Ryan's even more so. By the end, she ends up being a convenient plot device for the finale, and her motivations for her actions, as well as their consequences, are skimmed over. Her relationship plotline with Ryan takes a few abrupt turns before even more abruptly resolving after two shows' worth of buildup, which feels like a disservice to both characters.

Like I said above, I actually like the choice of Ka-chung being the protagonist of this show, as I also wanted to learn more about him. But in my opinion, 940920 fails to consider the emotions that audiences have coming from Leap Day, especially when it partially promised to continue Yeesa's story with Ka-chung and Ryan. If the show had concerned itself solely with being a prequel and not attempted to deal with Yeesa's present day, this would have been fine. But by trying to do too much with a story that didn't support those endeavours, the show weakens itself.

As well, I have some mixed feelings about how 940920's new leads are inserted into the story, namely Yu Ka-chung and Lam Co-ying. The Ka-chung of the altered timeline was first introduced at the end of Leap Day, and I was actually incredibly excited to learn more about him, as well as how Yeesa would react to him. And we got some of that, he's excellent in the first half of the show... but by the second half he's been largely forgotten. Like Yeesa, his development gets rather shafted, and he doesn't get to stand on his own as a character with his own arc by the end of the show. Instead, he just exists to facilitate telling the original Ka-chung's story. I was quite disappointed by this, honestly. They could've done a lot more with contrasting two versions of a character existing in different timelines.

Regarding Lam Co-ying... I like Cecilia Choi and her chemistry with Terrance was fine as per usual (they're a couple in real life who've worked on multiple projects together), but in my opinion Co-ying was not as compelling a FL as Yeesa was in Leap Day. Her actions are generally more frustrating as she goes in circles, and the comparison to Yeesa can't be helped, as she was introduced as the FL and got far more screentime while Yeesa pushed off to the side. Again, this would not be a problem if 940920 had decided to only be a prequel story. But Co-ying exists in the same narrative space as the established characters from Leap Day, that the audiences already know and love, and so her gradually longer and longer appearance becomes an unfortunate question of "Why should we care?". It feels like something got taken from the established characters to make room for her. I will say that the end of Co-ying's arc is compelling and I shed tears over it, but mostly I'm not sure that her inclusion in the show as-is was the smartest choice.

Interestingly, what I've seen others complain about rather than all of this is that 940920's themes were too different from Leap Day's, and it wasn't the slice-of-life with a side of magic realism they'd enjoyed in Leap Day. It's true, 940920 feels a bit darker, but I myself actually enjoyed the shift in focus. I will say though that its worldbuilding isn't quite as tight as Leap Day's when it comes to its time travel, and there's still a plot hole or two from Leap Day that didn't get resolved by it. As well, Leap Day had an INCREDIBLY strong final theme that made all of its slight narrative heel-dragging worth it, and while that same theme shows up in 940920, it doesn't have quite the same impact. But all that is minor to me, compared to these other things I've gone over here.

Overall, the main problem with 940920 is that it just doesn't seem to care as much about the present day altered timeline as much as the past original one. I would have loved it if there had been a series focused on one, and another on the other, but 940920 trying to cover both just ends up stumbling. It doesn't feel so much like a follow-up to Leap Day so much as just some other stories set in its universe, and all the characters involved end up suffering to varying degrees for it.

Un bimbo di sei anni disperso nella giungla vietnamita, è stato ritrovato dopo cinque giorni, ancora vivo.

Dang Tien Lam, che vive nella provincia nord-occidentale di Yen Bai, stava giocando in un ruscello con i suoi nove fratelli quando si è addentrato tra le colline perdendosi. Oltre 150 persone tra cui agenti di polizia, soldati e tanti volontari locali si sono messi in moto per condurre le ricerche giorno e notte con ogni mezzo e proprio quando le speranza di trovare il bambino erano quasi svanite, Lam è stato visto da un contadino locale che ha sentito il suo pianto, mentre puliva un campo di cannella vicino alla foresta. Il bambino era seduto tra alcuni cespugli di manioca a circa 6 chilometri dal luogo della sua scomparsa, esausto ma fuori pericolo.

Lam è sopravvissuto nutrendosi di foglie e frutti selvatici e bevendo acqua di un ruscello, è riuscito a rimanere indenne dalle tigri, dai serpenti e dalle innumerevoli minacce che popolano le fitte foreste del Vietnam. La polizia ha detto che è stato un “miracolo” che sia stato trovato vivo, aggiungendo che le sue condizioni di salute sono sorprendentemente buone.
